Interview with Suzanne (continued)

At any point did she question her sanity? "When you have stuff like that going on, you constantly question your sanity. But if you pay your bills and do those things society deems right and you see then those things you're told come true over and over again, you begin to think maybe you're not crazy," she says.

In 1988 Suzanne decided it was time to put away her toe shoes. She studied to become a massage therapist (and remained with the ballet as the dancer's official massage therapist until 1991).

"At first it was hard," she says. "I'd be trying to work on someone's body and suddenly I'd know things about them."

She relates a benchmark experience: "A new client comes in for a massage, a normal-looking guy. He was lying face down on the table and the room filled with angels, saying the it was imperative that I talk to him-because he was suicidal. The angels wanted me to talk to him. They were very insistent.

Halfway through the massage, I finally said, 'Do you believe in God?'

'No, I'm an atheist,' he said,

'Do you believe in angels?

No.

'Well, I do. The room is full of them and they really want to talk to you.' I waited, until he encouraged me. 'They say you're upset about a relationship and thinking of doing a stupid thing.'"

"He didn't say anything. At the end of the massage, he said, 'I was planning to kill myself tonight. I had everything prepared. I'd said, if there is a God I want to know it now.' "He didn't kill himself. He came in once a month for over two years. Then he got married. In this particular experience I am glad I was brave enough to say something."

Soon Suzanne hung her psychic shingle alongside the massage shingle and now is working full time in both professions and is often booked a month or more in advance. She travels to Los Angeles once a month to work with clients in the film industry.

Her clientele includes many people in the helping profession psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, teachers. She also sees business people and politicians. (She wouldn't tell us who.) Clients come from as far away as Scottsdale, Los Angeles, even New York.

One man, a professor, came reluctantly at the behest of his wife. "After I talked a while he said to me, 'I don't know about all this stuff. But I want to believe that it's true and that somebody can talk to angels. And I can tell that your heart's in the right place.'

"Occasionally I'll get a real tough bird-someone who engages my left brain by trying to test me. Psychics are hard to test because a test engages ego and one's need to be right. So I say to that person, "Just let me do my reading and if in the course of it I pass your test fine.'

"I tell people not to believe me 100%. Be sensitive to your visceral response-what hits your gut." She advises, "Psychics are usually not good readers for themselves or those close to them. But look at your psychic's life. If he or she is way out of balance in a particular area, they probably are not going to be good at giving you information in that area. For instance, I'm weak in stocks, bonds, securities, and horse racing. My skill is the emotional body, work, and relationships."

Suzanne says anyone can develop the skill of paying attention to one's inner voices but admits that she has a special talent. She teaches classes on empowerment, relationships, and intuition.

She is classified as an "Empath" - one who picks up information on the emotional level. Sometimes psychics protect themselves with a layer of fat. Instead, she protects herself by watching her health, eating well, and taking Chinese herbs everyday. She does yoga and meditation regularly and tries to avoid the violence and negativity on television, as it interferes with her accessing the "higher frequency."

She chooses to shop early in the morning before the psychically noisy crowds. Friends tend to be people who've done a lot of personal work. People who are clear and straightforward. She picks up on conscious and unconscious lies.

Nature, to her, is a place full of animals and metaphors. "Once, near Jeremy Ranch, I saw an eagle, a blue heron, mama moose and baby moose, and an elk, with my dog sitting quietly next to me. Another time I saw a full-grown cougar. I find animals all the time." Or they find her.

In a visit with Suzanne, she may do numerology, look at your palm, use one of her decks of cards, or just channel directly. "Everything is channeling," she says. "The person is a hologram. The hand tells me one aspect, the cards another, the guides another. It's like looking at a person from several angles to get a 3-D picture. With channeling I put it all together and walk around the hologram."
