REVERSED
MEANING
Reversed this card is telling you that you are out
of balance. You may be searching after pipe dreams. You may
be caught in self-illusion or delusion and you may be looking
with rose-colored glasses at the world. If you stay in this
place you may be unable to function in the real world. It is
possible to become too idealistic. It is important to listen
to your intuition but still be a part of this physical world
that you live in. There may be some aspect of your life that
is not in touch with reality. You may be trying to escape facing
a difficult truth arriving in your life at this time. With this
card reversed you are in danger of becoming ungrounded. This
can threaten the security that you have so far created in your
life. This doesn’t work. Focus on bringing more balance
back in your life. When the Priestess is reversed, idealism
can turn into a manic behavior. Dreams are a wonderful impetus
to grow and move toward a new vision. But dreams are simply
a map, they are not the territory. As you move towards a dream,
that dream must evolve and change. The dream as you see it now
is not necessarily how it will look at the end. The Priestess
reversed can indicate that you are trying to prove that your
intuitive message is correct. Whenever the mind wants to prove
its validity, then intuition is not actually working well. This
indicates that the rational mind has a need to be right and
to prove its point. That shows an attachment. Intuition has
no attachment to the information. It is moving spontaneously
and is in the moment. Intuition only has the desire to assist
and to help. Step out of your need to be right and allow the
true Priestess inside you to give you the assistance you are
looking for.
QUESTIONS TO ASK
Am I following my intuitive guidance?
Am I out of touch with this reality?
Am I allowing my love to guide me?
Am I spiritually nurturing myself?
Am I experiencing the magic life is showing all around me?
Am I trusting that everything around me is only for my highest
growth and potential?
Am I following my heart?
THE PATH
Love
challenges you to open in ways that you didn’t know were
possible. Falling in love is easy. Staying in love is a great
challenge. Learning to love is the desire to find wholeness
through opposition. Opposites attract in the dance of love and
intimacy. You desire to find out if you are loveable through
learning to love aspects in others that reflect your shadow.
Remember if you are drawn to someone, they are reflecting something
to you that you are unable to see at this moment. In learning
to love them you are learning to love that fragmented aspect
within you. Bring that concept into your conscious awareness
and allow the love to heal lost parts within..
YES-NO POSITION
Yes, but you may learn something that you do not totally
see at the present moment. A mystery is drawing you in to the
dance of life. Listen to your intuition and follow your heart
and you will get the answer you are seeking.

ANGELS
Angel of Intuition and Unconditional love.
Angel of the Spiritual Mother.
CHRISTIAN ARCHETYPE
An example of the Priestess is when Mary Magdalene
intuitively went to Christ’s tomb and was the first
one to see the Resurrected Christ.
MOVIE ARCHETYPES
Forest Gump: Forest’s childhood sweetheart
Jenny.
Wizard of Oz: The Good Witch of the North is the perfect example
of the Priestess and Dorothy when she starts out on the Yellow
Brick road. The Ruby Slippers are also The Priestess in action.
LEVELS
Physical Level: The High Priestess
represents the desire to let go of knowledge and the mind.
On the physical level this card it telling you that it is
time to seek intuitive counsel. This is a time to begin to
learn functional intuitive skills. Start with small steps,
like noticing when things around you are repeating. There
is no such thing as coincidence. Events that repeat are a
sign from the universe to pay attention. Subtlety is an intuitive
message coming in from the divine. This is the Priestess at
work in your physical world. Take notice of all multiple overlapping
messages that are happening in your life and ask yourself
the question, “Why does this keep happening? What is
the underlying message the universe is trying to tell me?”
Angels will try to speak literally through your values and
belief systems. So all messages are given in metaphorical
ways that you understand or trust. If you trust the Bible,
ask a question in your mind and randomly open the book. Where
ever your eyes land is the answer. Messages come in the manner
in which you understand something. Your angels know what you
feel safe with and how you best receive information. If you
like animal metaphors the message will show up as animals
crossing your path or birds flying in the sky. Your job is
to stay alert to all signals that are coming to you from the
divine.
Emotional Level: Trust your instincts and
open to a bigger plan. But do not go too far out of balance.
This cards energy in excess can cause you to become ungrounded.
Emotionally this card will attempt to catalyze you into action.
You might be feeling the urge to begin a process that will
open you to the mystical world, but you may not know how to
begin. It is time to listen to the inner impulses of your
heart. Let your heart decide as to the proper action at this
time. Don’t think! Respond to the natural flow being
presented to you. Open to the possibility that magic is happening
all the time, but you may not be noticing. Let go of your
old emotional pictures of who you are and find out who you
might really be inside. Take a risk to find out what you may
be hiding from yourself. The best of you may be buried in
the deep subconscious of your soul. When you open to the magical
elements of the Priestess you discover aspects to your soul
that you had hoped were there but never knew where to find
them.
Spiritual Level: On this level the Priestess
is teaching you to access the place of unconditional love
inside yourself. Experience the perfection of this moment.
Go back to the place inside where everything is perfect in
love. Remember that everything that is happening at this moment
is designed to open you to more of yourself. More energy and
love is right there waiting for you to claim it. The challenge
is to see if you are willing to catalyze yourself into the
next level of your spiritual development. This requires an
expanded level of trust in your own process and your ability
to continue to grow. On this level there are constant small
adjustments as your intuition grows and you learn how to stay
on your spiritual path.
INTERPRETATION
The Priestess represents the Moon and
is the ultimate, magical, feminine card. This is the Spiritual
Mother at work in your life. She is the exalted feminine archetype.
Like the Moon astrologically, she is the intuitive, mysterious,
deep energy that creates changes in your perceptions and your
ability to see internally.
Mary Magdalene represents the Spiritual Mother in the Christian
model. Mary Magdalene as an archetype assists us in reaching
to a higher form of love. It is about love beyond the physical
realm. This feminine model represents a very independent and
strong aspect within all of us. Mary Magdalene had a love
so strong that it went beyond the physical plane into oneness
with the divine.
The Priestess card represents the Spiritual Mother figure.
When this card appears the intuitive aspect of the feminine
is at work in your life. The Priestess card is a spiritual
catalyst to ones life. She is mysterious, deep in feeling,
empathetic, and pure feminine spiritual consciousness. You
could think of it as the angelic feminine. The Priestess is
pure in every way, sweet and perceptive, patient and poetic.
The Good Witch of the North, in the Wizard of Oz, aligns with
the Priestess. The Good Witch of the North appears from a
floating bubble. She magically appears only when she is truly
needed. She understands that there is a higher plan for Dorothy.
She is there to spiritually inspire and motivate Dorothy.
As is typical of the Priestess archtype, she won’t give
too much information away. She allows Dorothy to have her
experience. Glenda is a guide to this new realm Dorothy has
entered but she knows enough to allow the journey to be a
mystery to Dorothy. She is a true ally. She will not do the
work for Dorothy and allows her to find her own way. Yet,
she will protect Dorothy when she falls asleep in the field
of poppies. The Priestess gives the message that life needs
to be experienced to be understood.
The Priestess is aware that Dorothy must go on this journey.
She sees the powerful Good Witch in Dorothy and allows Dorothy
to see it in herself.
Glenda asks Dorothy, “Is she is a Good Witch or a Bad
Witch?”. This allows Dorothy to think about the nature
of her own power, in a very subtle way. Dorothy denies she
has any magic at all. She cannot yet see it within herself.
That is because she is at the beginning of her journey as
a Priestess.
When Dorothy lands in Oz she is challenged to become the Priestess.
She is in a world that she doesn’t understand; doesn’t
know anything about the people; doesn’t know whether
she is in trouble or not for killing the Wicked Witch of the
East. She has no choice but to go with the flow. Then the
Good Witch of the North shows up to guide her into the new
realm of Oz. The ruby slippers also represent the key into
the magical intuitive feminine. Once they are placed on her
feet the journey begins. That journey will help her find her
deepest feelings and desires.
Inside everyone, there is a deep powerful Feminine aspect
that is intuitive and knowing. If you deny your mystical feminine,
you will live a life of unexpressed creativity. This does
not mean everyone is supposed to be a painter. It’s
about learning to listen to your deeper feelings and instincts.
Life is about learning to trust those feelings and follow
their instruction when it is necessary.
Let’s go back to the metaphor of:
0 Fool: represents a new job.
I Magician: represents a desire to learn new skills for the
job. Seeking knowledge.
II Priestess: represents a desire to access a deeper creative
side to find the solution.
The Priestess reminds us that most things cannot be just cognitively
learned. You can learn skills. Then you must use them creatively
in your own way. Knowledge (Magician) allows your mind to
trust. When the mind lets go then instinct takes over (The
Priestess).
Think of it like a ballet dancer. Dancers learn skills day
in and day out. The body is trained with the mind. But, when
a dancer goes out on stage they are not thinking about what
the next step is, and if they can do it. They let go of the
mind and find the magic within the flow of the steps. Then
something happens that is transcendent. It goes beyond the
choreography into something divine. This is the work of the
Priestess card.
Babies are very connected to the divine mother. Babies love
unconditionally. Babies believe that all their needs will
get taken care of. For a baby in the womb of their mother,
there is magically food when she or he needs it. They have
perfect trust in the divine. They believe that they and the
mother are one. This is why as grownups we are so drawn to
them. When we are with small babies it opens us back up to
the parts of ourself that are connected to spirit. We remember
once again how to trust. As our hearts open we become happier
and more at peace with our essential nature.
So when this card shows up, it is letting you know that something
magical can happen if you just let go. Listen to your gut
feelings rather than to your mind. It is time to integrate
the knowledge you have learned in a more creative way. It
is time to learn to let knowledge expand beyond the present
form and beyond your minds perception.
The Priestess is about functional intuition in action. The
Priestess is about Divine Love and intervention; not human
love.
When this card shows up it is a challenge to go within and
listen to the small feelings inside. Trust your intuition
and allow something to be creatively expressed. The answer
at this time cannot be found logically or through seeking
cognitive knowledge. It is to be found experientially in the
divine realm of magic.
